The wild outside our windows.

Birds are everywhere. They are a constant reminder to everyone of the wild, free world outside of our own.

Instead of watching them and longing to feel the exhilaration of flight, we try to draw them closer.

Whether it's the pigeons in the street, the ducks at the park, or the birds we see in our gardens, they're all around us, making the mundane that much brighter for their presence.

Creating bird sculptures

I sculpt most of my birds with their wings closed by their sides because I want people to be able to hold them.

We can't hold the wild birds, they're not meant to be captured.

Holding my bird sculptures I want them to feel joyful, and their tactile nature encourages the sense of touch, of running your hands over their shape, getting to know them.

In fact, that's how I get to know the real birds - by imagining what they would feel like to stroke my fingers over their form, the contours and forms their feathers create.

Favourite Bird

Ask, and most people would be able to tell you who their favourite bird is.

We're blessed here in the UK with hundreds of different species - all with their own distinct forms and shapes.

Some are iconic, others winter or summer visitors.

I love them all, and I love learning about their worlds.

Birds in the wild

The fact that a tiny little being can fly thousands of miles when they're only a year old, and know exactly where home is, is just astonishing.

Puffins who return to the same burrow, Gannets who know their mate amongst a sea of others.

They live their lives in this precarious world with freedom in their souls and love in their hearts. They are fighters and lovers, swimmers and fliers, and we can only dream of having their superpowers.
