Puffin sculpture

After finally seeing my first Puffin in my 40's, I decided that I had to make a Puffin sculpture. My first sighting was at Bempton Cliffs in Yorkshire, and these are all sculpted from those encounters.

I particularly enjoy their flippy flappy little feet, and their quizzical expressions.

Each Puffin sculpture starts off with a bag of stoneware ceramic clay - a robust, high-firing clay. Occasionally, one of them gets taken to the foundry to be cast in bronze. Otherwise I bisque fire them, decorate them with underglazes and glazes to give them colour and shine.

I've even had a ceramic puffin sculpture fly all the way over to Australia! Not bad for such a little bird.

Puffin sculpture - Requests

I'm always making more critters and I do take requests.
