The Soul Behind My Critters

Every now and again I see comments like “OMG, how much?!” on my adverts. I understand why — when you’re used to factory-made gubbins, it can feel surprising to see the price of something handmade.

But my critters aren’t mass-produced. They start as a lump of clay in my hands. Each one takes hours of shaping, drying, glazing, firing — sometimes firing again — and carefully finishing. If something goes wrong in the kiln, I start all over again. No shortcuts, no conveyor belts.

The materials I use aren’t the cheapest either, but they’re chosen because I want every piece to last a lifetime. Whether it’s clay or bronze, I’d rather make something that can be treasured forever than something that’s here today, gone tomorrow.

No two critters are ever the same. That’s part of the joy for me, and hopefully for you too - knowing that the robin, hare, owl, or puffin on your shelf is truly unique.

And your pennies don’t just support me. They ripple out to other small businesses who care about people and the planet. To wildlife charities. To the individuals feeding orphaned hedgehogs at 3am, or releasing rehabilitated otters into the wild.

So yes, they’ll never be “cheap.” But they’ll always be handmade, unique, and made with love. And when you bring one home or gift it to someone you love, you’re choosing something real, lasting, and full of soul.
