A trip to Pembrokeshire to see the Skomer Puffins

Some people dream of lounging by a pool in the baking sun reading a trashy novel.

Me? I dreamed of being stuck on an island surrounded by Puffins!

The problem was, my fear of the sea and deep water. That's where my friend Dean came in - his hypnotherapy worked an absolute treat. I'd hoped for fine sunny weather and a mirror-smooth surface the boat would glide across, instead we got rather strong winds and choppy roly poly waves. I didn't care. I was grinning all the way. Turns out, Dean, you're a magician! (check him out - https://www.hynotherapywithdean.com/)

So... to Skomer!

Skomer didn't disappoint when it came to the closeness of the Puffins, and despite the wind nearly blowing me off my feet I had a good walk around the island and managed to spot my first ever Chough! A Chough Bird on Skomer IslandAmongst the other birds I saw Oystercatchers, Black-backed Gulls and Meadow Pipits. I even managed to spot a Manx Shearwater over the water on the journey out (but the camera was firmly in my bag!)

But of course, I was there to see our funny little Puffin friends.

I make no apologies for the number of photos I'm about to show you. But the first one is this little chap. He reminds me so much of my first ever bronze Puffin sculpture - Flippy Flappy

And of course I had to take one of my little ceramic Puffins - an emotional support Puffin in my pocket as I embarked on my sea adventure. Turns out, he stayed happily in my pocket and after the return journey I thanked our tour guide by popping the little Puffin in his hands to keep as a mascot for the boat. I'm pretty sure he thought I was quite bonkers.

Anyway, back to the main event! The Puffins!
A Circus of Puffins on Skomer Island amongst the grassThey're such sociable birds they're delightful to watchPuffin on Skomer Island
And when they run they always look like they're about to get up to some kind of mischief!
Two Puffins on Skomer Island clicking beaks
There was plenty of beak tapping between pairs.
A Puffin stretching its wings on Skomer Island
And of course flapping of wings.
Flying Puffin
Flying in and out to sea.
A Puffin peering at the viewer
Being nosey at these strange human beans watching them with smiling faces.
A napping Puffin on Skomer Island
And when it all got just too much, taking a nap.
